Match Report
Result: Lost by 12 runs
It was warm and sunny for the first game of the cricket season as we welcomed Worksop to St Hugh’s. Worksop batted first and got off to a good start with their openers batting positively. With the score on 35, Wilf took the first wicket with a good caught and bowled. Euan soon picked up two more with his offspin. There were tidy spells from Charles (bowling fast!) and Aydin also picked up a wicket. Wilf bowled the last over and took wickets with his last 2 balls so is now on a hat trick when he next plays! Worksop finished on 94- 6 off 20 overs.
Due to the wet weather this term, this was the first chance to bat on the grass wicket and this was evident from some of our shots. The wicket was very slow and we needed to wait for the ball as it was very easy to play too soon and give a catch…which is what happened, and Worksop caught all 6 chances that we gave. Impressive batting from Toby, Charlie and Amelia down the order got within 12 runs of the target before Toby was caught out in the last over going for the win. I was pleased with our bowling and fielding but we need to put more value on our wicket in the next games.
