Match Report

Result: L0-8

We travelled to Ranby excited for our first away football fixture. The Year 3 team played two halves where we met different opposition. The first half we played well moving the ball around, but on occasions giving it away cheaply following all our hard work. Ranby were able to capitalise on this and scored two goals. We settled back down and through some great tackling through George and Taylor we were able to get Freddie and Harry in some space. They made good ground but were unable to get clean shots off. The next two goals came unfortunately from our errors and we found the back of our own net. The next half, Ranby had a totally new squad, so lots of fresh legs. We on the other hand were tiring. That said we came out well making some great tackles to win the ball and also link a few good passes together. We struggled to clear our lines as well this half, so played a lot of football in our own half which is always risky. Ranby worked well to close us down and had some players with a good boot who were able to hit the back of the net. All boys showed great effort and never stopped working for each other, which was commendable. Well done boys!

Year 4 had a tough game against a very good opposition who had a couple of very able players. Although the score was 5-0 to Ranby, the St Hugh’s boys played extremely well in an exciting game where they had lots of opportunities but, more importantly, showed lots of improvement during the game in terms of awareness and progress. It was great to watch them string a game together of good passing and had it not been for some excellent goalkeeping by Ranby and some strong defending (these were the two players I alluded to earlier) then the game could have been very different. Well done to the team for travelling well, representing the school well and for making a really good impression in a match which was played in a very good spirit.
