Match Report
Team A
Result: 0-3 L
St Hugh’s put up a great battling performance against a decent Ranby side. The two teams were well matched and though we did not venture many times into their area, we restricted their chances pretty well. Freddie S, Ralph J-B, and Charlie S proved to be a solid spine up through the middle of the pitch, with Harry L, Hugo H-S, Freddie H and Bertie P providing a strong supporting cast. William B started out in goal. After a good long range effort, Ranby took the lead and then added to their total before the interval. In the second half, Bertie had a stint in goal and William made himself busy in midfield. In this period of the game, we looked more threatening, winning several corners and creating some one-on-one situations against their keeper. Alas, no goals resulted from this pressure, though Ranby could only add one more to their tally. It was a hardworking display by all players with particularly impressive effort from Hugo and Ralph getting up and down tirelessly in midfield and Freddie S keeping positionally disciplined at centre back.
Team B
Result: 0-5 L
The U9 B team played against Ranby on quite a cold afternoon, and needed to keep running to stay warm. I was really pleased with the effort that boys put in, with Joseph, Joshua and Barnes particularly impressive. Harvey played in goal in the first half and used his powerful kick effectively to get the ball into the Ranby half. Ranby had a couple of quite skillful players and did score 3 goals in the first half.
After half time Otto swapped with Harvey in goal and Albie pushed forward in an effort to try to score some goals. We came quite close and earned a few corners and had a couple of impressive shots, but didn't quite score. Some encouraging signs though. Well played!
