U9A Mixed Cricket

Result: Win St H 266/3, Grantham 199/8

It was a super performance by our U9A team on Wednesday who were delighted to play on home soil this week and on the 1st team pitch!

We faced a mixed Grantham Prep ‘A’ team in a 15 over game of 5 pairs per side. Overall it was a strong performance by the St Hugh’s side who worked together this week, particularly out in the field. Edward J captained the side and elected to field first having won the toss. 

There was some fabulous fielding which saw the team take a total of eight wickets earning crucial points (with five runs being added to our score per wicket). It was great to see the Grantham Batters being caught, bowled, run out and stumped.  Well done to Edward J, George P, Beau (x2), Rory (x2), Seb and Joshua. George P took a great close catch early on in the game and Rory P a fabulous dive catch! A great team effort. Our bowling is certainly improving and though we faced underarm bowls, it was super to see every one of our players bowling a number of accurate overarm bowls. Grantham scored a total of 184/8 following the first innings. 

St Hugh’s went in to bat with confidence and knew what we were chasing. There were a number of boundaries including 6’s from Rory (3), Josh and Seb (final ball of the game). There was also some confident running between the wickets, particularly from Beau who scored a number of doubles. Batting scores below:

I was particularly pleased this week with how the players supported one another both verbally and physically by backing up and communicating well. Well done to all players! 

U9 Mixed Cricket

Result: Win 96-74

We played a game called Dynamos. If you are bowled a no ball you then get the chance to score runs from hitting off a tee. 

We went into bat first, hitting a few 4s. We hesitated a lot and could have scored more runs if we had communicated with our partners.

Grantham bowled underarm and from closer in, this meant we needed to wait for the bounce and time it correctly. Faith, Harriet, George, Elijah, Penelope and Tallulah all scored 4s. 

We ended the batting on 86 runs. After a quick team chat we went into the field. We displayed some excellent bowling with the majority of the children trying overarm bowling.

We were pretty slick in the field and stopped many 4s - a real improvement in concentration levels and accurate throwing. 

Elijah stumped 2 players, adding 10 more to our total.
