Match Reports
Ayscoughfee Hall brought the sunshine with them on Wednesday afternoon and though their numbers are smaller, it was great to field two U9 teams this week to play in a 5 pairs softball cricket game. It was a great atmosphere, with a fabulous turnout of spectators. With every cricket pitch being played on, it was a busy afternoon!
Red Team
Result: Won 196/7
The Red Team had a great game and definitely grew in confidence as the first innings progressed. George P was captain this week and displayed great leadership qualities, encouraging his team throughout. His knowledge of cricket certainly showed thanks to his love for the game and commitment to club cricket. George won the toss and opted to take to the field first. He also opened the bowling, limiting the batters to just two singles in the first over. Our fielding was effective though we learned quickly that communication is key and that back up is also crucial. As fielders, they were encouraged to expect and want every ball to come to them to ensure they were prepared. There were some super catches taken by George P and Verity. We were also successful out in the field taking seven wickets in total. Well done to Beau who also found the bails and bowled a player out. These wickets count as -5 so the team did well to limit Ayscoughfee’s score to 116/7.
Harriet and Annabelle opened the batting in the second innings. With some fabulous communication the girls scored an impressive number of runs, which included singles and boundaries. They made great contact with the ball but also showed good running between the stumps resulting in them being the highest scoring pair of the afternoon (32/1). Next up was Charlie and George who scored a couple of 4s and a good number of singles. They did however lose two wickets, finishing on 15/2. Verity and Hetty were 3rd into bat and managed to lose just the one wicket over the three overs and scored a pleasing 21/1. Anna and Hollie, our Year 3 pair, grew in confidence and worked well together to secure some great singles. Losing two wickets they finished on 4/2. It was great to see how they worked together making quick decisions. Finally Beau and Gio came in as our last pair. They scored a total of 24/1, which included three 4s with some impressive batting. Overall a super win for the St Hugh’s red team who finished on 196/7.
Yellow Team
Result: Won 288-270
The Yellow Team came together to improve on their close result last week. With a mix up of pairs the communication was stronger and the team were reading the game better and making tactical decisions on runs which is fantastic to see. Batting skills are developing and there were some super connections made by many members of the team. After batting had finished St Hugh’s were on 288. Now it was time to field. Working together and reacting quickly to the ball stopped Ayscoughfee from making potential runs. Bowling is coming along and we saw an improvement from all yesterday. Ayscoughfee ended their batting on 270 which gave St Hugh’s the win. Well done everyone.
