Match Report
It was great to welcome Burton Hathow on Wednesday to play in two U9 Softball fixtures.
Team 1
Result: Win St Hugh’s 234/4, Burton Hathow 140/3
It was a confident performance by this team, captained by Year 4, George P. St Hugh’s fielded first and our captain opened the bowling. It was a great start by George, conceding just 1 run in the first over of the game with no wide or no balls. Every player bowled at least one over and it was great to see how our consistency and accuracy in bowling has developed over the season so far! There was some great bowling by Hetty in the sixth over who also lost just one run over her six balls, with no wides or no balls. We took our first wicket against batting pair 3. This was the start of what was to come, with a further four in the five overs! Well done to George P who got a catch and a run out and Annabelle B and Beau B-W who both bowled players out.
Annabelle and Harriet opened the batting for St Hugh’s, running confidently and communicating well. They scored a total of 28 runs for 1 which included three boundaries. Next up was Charlie and Verity who almost achieved the same score, finishing on 27 runs for 0! This included one boundary and a good number of singles. Our third pair in was Beau and Gio who added 22 runs to the scoreline and our first 6 of the match (Beau). There were a further three boundaries scored and some intelligent running led to some good singles and doubles! A good score given that they lost three wickets to some accurate bowling. Hetty and Anna followed and again performed well scoring 24 runs. They were unlucky to be bowled a lot of wides and no balls which made it tricky to hit the ball but they persevered and got some singles in. Finally, George P and Ralph finished the batting for St Hugh’s. There were some super boundaries scored and the boys communicated exceptionally well to score a number of singles too.
Well done to all players and thank you to George who displayed great leadership qualities as captain of this team. From warming his players up, to setting the field and encouraging everyone throughout the game, you did a fabulous job!
Team 2
Team 2 were eager to take to the field for their match against Burton Hathow. The team has been working on their individual skills and communication. St Hugh’s batted first with some good decisions made on runs to make. Joseph made some super connections with the ball resulting in several 4s. It was great to see encouragement from the players waiting to bat and the team supporting each other. St Hugh’s finished their batting with 250/7. Next was time to field. Some fantastic bowling from multiple players and good backing up of the ball from the fielders. Burton Hathow ended their batting 266/1. Each player showed great sportsmanship and attitude to play. Well done to Edward P for receiving the opposition player of the match. A great performance all round.
