U9 Softball Cricket v Lincoln Minster School

Match Reports

Red Team

Result: L 278-261

Eight U9 St Hugh’s players took to the main cricket square to play against Lincoln Minster School on Monday afternoon. We began by fielding where the team were keen to shut down space and deny the opposition's runs. Beau took a catch in the first innings. Overall the fielding was strong with Annabelle making some super stops out by the boundary. Accurate bowling helped deny runs despite some super shots from LMS resulting in many 4 and 6s. George P took a wicket in the final over of the game with LMS finishing on 278. After some slow communication on whether to make runs or not St Hugh’s began to make some good connections with the ball. Beau, Harriett, Verity and Geroge P all secured 4s.The team has been working on when to make strategic single runs to gain points and demonstrated this skill well today. As a team they had 9 wickets taken against them and some could have been avoided with stronger communication. A good learning lesson for them all with clear goals for future fixtures. St Hugh’s finished on 261. Well done to the whole team for showing great sportsmanship towards teammates and opposition. Beau was awarded players’ player from LMS.

Green Team

Result: W 133-107

Our St Hugh's players started off the game batting with Annie and Jonty up first, they made some excellent runs scoring 10 runs together as a pair. The team used their batting skills to score more runs throughout the game including Harvey scoring a 4 with his superb batting. We were then up to field with 133 runs behind us! Lincoln Minster demonstrated amazing batting with Maya making some excellent bowls. Harry took a catch in the third over and was his fielding was amazing. Willow was up next to bowl and was very accurate throughout with Abi being a great wicket keeper! Annie got a wicket with one of her bowls and Bea used her throwing skills to get one of the Minster players out! Overall, the team played so well together and won the game. Harry got players’ player from Minster and it was very well deserved!

Blue Team

Result: W 125-3 v 94-3

Lincoln Minster won the toss and decided to bat. We bowled in pairs. Anna and Hollie took one wicket for 19 from their 3 overs.

Charlie and William conceded 28 runs.

Olivia and Freddie conceded 31 runs against some big hitting, but took a wicket with a good catch by Charlie.

Ralph and Hugo conceded 16 runs but got a run out.

Minster finished on 94 for 3.

Anna and Hollie lost a wicket to their first ball, but then came back strong and scored 29 from their 3 overs with both girls getting 4s.

Charlie and William batted next and they hit a mighty 38 from their 3 overs. Charlie was striking the ball superbly with lots of 4s and both boys hit 6s.

Olivia and Freddie scored 27 from their 3 overs with Freddie scoring a couple of 4s and Olivia 3 4s and a 6.

After 3 of our 4 pairs we had already tied the Minster score so any score that Hugo and Ralph could hit would take us to victory. Although they lost two wickets both boys were hitting 4s and 6s so they scored by 31 runs in their 3 overs and we won by 31.

The other team awarded Charlie as our batter of the day, Olivia as the fielder and Ralph as the bowler.

A good all round performance.

Purple Team

Result: W147-133

Purple team were first up to bat and a great effort collectively from the whole team, good communication from all the pairs and lots of one runs kept the score ticking over. Joseph finding the boundary to score a four! Minster were very strong and accurate at bowling which led to a couple of pairs losing a wicket.

Next into fielding and the team showed great teamwork closing down any gaps in the field and backing each other up at the wickets. Successful bowling from Sophia, Jemima and Cecily all taking wickets. Great game for all involved and fantastic to see them all applying tactical elements they've learned in practice and implementing into their fixture. Well done Purple Team!
