Match Report
Result: St Hugh’s 135/8 - Ranby 195/2
It was great to see the U9s in action on Wednesday for their opening game of the cricket season. We faced Ranby at home and Rory P captained the side this week. We played 5 pairs softball with each pair facing three overs. We won the toss and after consulting with his team, Rory opted to take to the field for the first innings - always a wise decision!
It was clear from early on in the match that Ranby had some experienced players but the St Hugh’s side fielded well on the whole. Seb and Alistair both took a wicket with some effective bowling. Rory also bowled very well, limiting the Ranby scoreline in the final three overs. It was also encouraging to see the improvement in our bowling accuracy and length for all those who bowled a second over. Alistair and George impressed with some pleasing fielding to prevent a few 4s being scored.
St Hugh’s faced some strong bowlers from the Ranby side but we managed to score a good number of 4s and the occasional single - we were a little tentative at times so we will look to work on communicating with our fellow batter in training. A few of our players were bowled out and one caught which therefore impacted on our score with 5 points being deducted for each wicket taken.
We scored 135/8 to Ranby’s 195/2. A tough defeat but we learned a lot from this game and look forward to working on some of these areas in training.Thank you to Rory for leading the team so well.
