Match Report
A little depleted in numbers this week, the U11 girls travelled to Witham. Our ‘A’ team played in a triangular fixture with Witham and Stamford U10A teams on a lovely spacious indoor court. The ‘B’ team played outdoors in a mixed ability festival, playing five games of 12 minutes!
Indoors, Millie captained the side and with the bare five players the girls had lots of court time. Our first match was against Witham. Though we started at 100mph, the team got into their stride and began to take more time to consider their options before distributing the ball. Possession was relatively equal between the two sides and there were some super interceptions, particularly from Megan, MIllie and Annabelle. I was also impressed by our athleticism on court - India and Kitty especially! India scored a great goal in the first half though Witham managed to equalise. The second half was just as exciting but unfortunately Witham took the lead and the game ended 1-2 Witham.
The Stamford match was another closely fought game but we learned from our mistakes and the girls really worked hard for one another - particularly in the second half which saw St Hugh’s dominate in our attacking third. Despite being down 0-1 at half time, the girls came back and won the game 4-3! Megan scored one of these but played fabulously in her role as GS. This followed a great training session on Monday where she really took on board the coaching points given. Annabelle worked well alongside her as GA and was successful in front of goal, scoring three out of four.
A fabulous effort girls - we look forward to facing Witham U11A next week prior to our trip to Uppingham for the IAPS festival! Get some shooting practice in!
