Year 5-8 Swim Gala
This week saw a busy schedule in the pool with our Year 5-8 Set Gala on Monday and our Year 3 & 4 Set Gala on Wednesday.
It was a great atmosphere poolside for the Year 5-8 Gala which saw every child competing for their set. For some children, this was their first experience of competitive swimming at St Hugh’s and they should be very proud of their performances on the day. It is by no means an easy task to step up in front of a large crowd and your peers and compete under competitive swim rules.
For others, this was a chance to compete for the fastest three times across events in order to secure their spot on the podium. For a few, it was a chance to challenge our school swimming records. Whatever the level, the sports staff were blown away by how many pupils achieved new personal best performances (98%!). This is credit to them for their hard work over the year.
Congratulations to the following pupils who have set NEW school records this week! We have school records for both Swimming and Athletics, with many records being held for a good number of years. It is always a privilege to see our pupils striving to achieve a school record and it is great to have some broken in 2025/26.
U9 Girls Butterfly - Eme B - 13.98s (2026)
This record was previously held by Lottie Fry since 2012 who swam 15.63s.
U13 Boys 4x1 Individual Medley - Joshua F - 54.66s (2026)
This record was previously held by Henry Hargreaves since 2018 who swam 57.69s.
Congratulations to our podium finishers. These swimmers achieved the fastest three times across their event in their respective age groups.
