Match Reports

Girls

Result: W59-47, L44-48, L50-35

The U11 girls had a very competitive festival at Pocklington.

First match, the girls worked well together in the field, backing each other up and getting two batters out. Into bat and April had a fantastic innings retiring at 25 and getting opposition players from the opposing team.

Next up was Pocklington and another close competitive match again, fielding well and finding the boundary on many occasions, from April,Tabitha, Charlotte.

Losing by four runs - it was a very close match. Opposition player April again!

Another closely contested third game but the windy conditions were against us and finding the boundary was a lot harder but another great team effort from all.

Hat trick for April who had her third opposition player!

Well done all!

Boys

Result: Won all three matches

The Under 11 Boys' Hardball Cricket Team enjoyed a very successful trip to Pocklington for the 6-a-side festival on Wednesday.

We started the first of our three matches against Tranby and batted first. Although it took a while before we got the scoreboard ticking over, in the second over we started to rack up the runs - James F and Rory S setting up a useful opening partnership with some good running between the wickets interspersed with the occasional boundary. Rory S eventually chipped a ball up to mid-on to be dismissed for nine in the fourth over. James ended not out on eight, and Rory P not out with six. Being the first game, we were unsure as to whether our total of 33-1 from our allotted five overs would be enough. However, any misgivings soon subsided as we bowled with great accuracy and were focused in the field. Tranby finished on 24-4 (wickets for Rory S and Sam and two run outs by George and Josh).

Bowling first against the hosts, again we restricted their flow of runs with straight bowling. After three overs they had just ten runs; however, a loose fourth over (going for 14 runs) helped Pocklington reach a defendable total of 30. Batting with more alacrity from the start this time - Sam summarily despatched the first ball to the boundary to set the tone - Sam and Josh quickly piled on the runs until Sam was bowled out for eight. George (five not out) replaced him, and in partnership with Josh (not out 15) several boundaries were scored and we overhauled their total with eight balls to spare.

The third and final match against Terrington saw us bat first again. Rory S and James opened and scored quickly, stylishly and with excellent communication between the two of them. Rory S managed a quick ten runs, before Rory P produced a masterclass in rapid run-scoring in the final over, the highlight being three consecutive boundaries. A very respectable total of 46-1 was reached (James F 15 not out, Rory P 16 not out). Our bowling remained consistently good - James managed to bag two wickets in one over, both catches - one for each Rory. Sam was also rewarded for his efforts with a wicket too. Terrington ended with 28 runs.

Rory S captained superbly, leading by example along with quiet words of advice; he also ensured that everyone had at least one innings. Josh N must also take credit too for his concentration and sharp reflexes as wicket keeper all afternoon. It was a superb team effort and a good opportunity to adapt match strategy for a different format - well done boys!
