Match Report

A Team - Result - 123 St H 153 BP

The children played well despite the cooler/windier weather. St Hugh's started off batting. The whole team did really well running between the wickets as the pitch was a bit slow and some excellent fielding from the home side stopped a few boundaries. Unfortunately we did lose a quite a few wickets during the match. The team then went into field and the bowling was good with a few wickets being taken and some excellent catches in the field got us back in the game.  Overall the children played well and in terms of runs St Hugh's were only 5 runs behind it was the amount of wickets taken which was the difference, this is something to work on. Well done!!

B Team - Result - 87 St H 134 BP

A rapid fire match with two innings saw a good fun game against a good BP team. St Hugh’s batted first and struggled to find the balance between striking out and taking quick singles. A similar story to the previous game and the takeaway lesson is to hit what can be hit and have a go at running everything with good backing up. BP ran a lot of quick singles and displayed tighter bowling which was the difference between the sides and resulted in that all important scoreboard tickover. That aside, St Hugh’s played in really good spirit and it was a great game. When we fielded, we bowled well and there was some fabulous catching. With each wicket being worth 5 runs to us, that ate into the BP total and the game was closer than the score line might suggest. Well done to all.

C Team - Result - 203 St H 274 BP

The sudden drop in temperature didn’t stop the 6 girls giving this afternoon their best effort. St Hugh’s began the match batting. The whole team managed to hit the ball and worked well in pairs to secure runs. It was lovely to see their communication and understanding of the game. Agatha had two super connections that resulted in 4’s. As the season progresses it is important for the girls to make tactical runs and know that calling ‘stay’ is alright. We ended the batting with 203. Next, it was time to field. Bowling started strong with Rosie scoring an early wicket. This was quickly backed up with speedy fielding that resulted in another wicket. Fielders were ready, chasing down balls and stopped a quick opposition from scoring more runs. The team came off full of smiles which was superb to see. An exciting season ahead! Agatha was awarded opposition player, well done!
