Match Report
St Hugh’s Blues (Ralph, William, Harvey, Charlie, Harry)
What performances to finish off the season! After a quick warm-up against St Hugh’s Reds we played Ayscoughfee and from the starting whistle we pressed them relentlessly. In this way we earned a couple of turnovers from tagging (no mean feat, as grabbing eels from a bucket of soapy water would be an easier task!) and took the opportunity with possession to run in quite a few tries. The second match against Grantham Prep followed a similar pattern with some more spectacular tagging and turnovers. Possession was shared out such that after both games all the boys had registered at least one try each. I was hugely impressed by the adept tagging on view - it was great to round off a successful season of progress in such stylish fashion.
St Hugh’s Reds (Beau, Freddie, George, Jonty, Hugo)
It was a super finish to a successful season for these U8 boys. With some absences, Beau stepped up to ensure we could field two teams to play matches against Ayscoughfee Hall and Grantham Prep. Thank you, Beau! We had the opportunity to have a short game against the St Hugh’s Blues which was a good warm up match in preparation for our games. George G captained the team this week and it was pleasing to see him running well with the ball but also off loading prior to being tagged, keeping the game flowing. Beau demonstrated excellent footwork as he made his way through the opposition to find the try line. I was pleased to see him passing the ball to his teammates to ensure everyone was involved. This led to an abundance of players scoring a try and adding to the scoresheet. Likewise, Hugo opted to distribute the ball in an attempt to use his teammates despite being close enough to score himself. Freddie had some strong runs, finding the gaps in the opposition's defence. Over the course of the afternoon, Jonty became more involved and it was super to see him making an effective pass to his teammate who then went on to score. The team really supported one another which is an area of the game that the boys have worked hard to improve. St Hugh’s demonstrated great strength playing against two U9 teams this week and it was lovely to hear from a parent just how much he feels they have progressed. Well done boys and thank you to those parents who have travelled to spectate at fixtures.
Have a lovely Christmas and get yourselves signed up to your local Rugby Club!
