World War One Workshop
Recently Year 8 took part in a World War One workshop, these are Euan P and Charles B's accounts of the day:
Last Friday Year 8 had a WW1 workshop and learnt all about the different uniforms and weapons that were used during WW1. We also learnt a lot of different stories from separate times during the war. We started off by learning about what all the countries were doing just before the war and then how they started off the war. The French weren’t well equipped! Then after morning break we learnt what soldiers carried around with them in their webbing and rucksacks. Some of the things included condensed milk, a shaving razor and a gas stove. It was a great morning and everyone really enjoyed it.
After lunch we learned about the second half of the war. First of all we did bayonet practice which included charging with a bayonet all the different positions the soldiers would have been taught and learning about tanks and planes and how the pilots kept a bomb between their legs and dropped it from the side of the plane when they thought they were over enemy lines. We learnt about the introduction of tanks and how messages were sent by carrier pigeons and how the Germans held hawks to kill the pigeons. Then we learnt about the upgrades of kits from the start of the war. Overall we had an amazing afternoon and all enjoyed the experience thoroughly.
