Annual Set Cross Country

It was a perfect afternoon for our Annual Set Cross Country and a great way to end what has been a very busy half-term. This is always a competitive event with individuals competing for a place on the podium but also for every runner trying to earn as many set points as possible!

This year we set the runners off in mixed gender age groups despite results being separated for boys and girls. This provided more competition and helped to push our stronger runners too.

The U13s took to the start line first with Mr Nicholl doing a great job as sweeper. It is always a tense moment waiting for the competitors to appear in the distance and it was Elliot A who came into sight first, looking very strong. Florence L followed shortly after and they were both the eventual winners. In second place for the boys was Huxley and third, Rico. In the girls competition, Charlotte T was second girl home, followed by Peyia F who showed great determination to get herself on the podium. The set results for the Senior race were as follows:

  • 1st - White
  • 2nd - Red
  • 3rd - Blue

The U11s were next up, running the same 3km course as their senior counterparts. A tough ask for some, given that the Y5’s have stepped up this year into the U11 age group. However, they did not fail to impress and it was Rupert B-W who stole the show (not surprisingly!). Rupert had a clear lead and crossed the line in first place. Second and third place was not so clear, with Charlie T and Austin S racing to the line. While Charlie held second place for the final 150m Austin turned it on in his usual style and gave Charlie a real run for his money! In the girls competition, it was Y5 Charlotte J who earned first place, a great run for being a year young! Kitty W followed to achieve second place with Annabelle J in 3rd. In the set competition, the results were as follows:

  • 1st - White
  • 2nd - Red
  • 3rd - Blue

The final race saw our youngest runners take to the start line with great enthusiasm! For some, this was their first experience and it was lovely to see them working hard over the course. In the boys competition, it was Sebastian F who appeared first with a relatively clear lead, followed by the third member of the Jay family, Edward! Rory P then crossed the line to achieve his place on the podium. In the girls competition, it was Y3 Harriet T who finished first, looking strong amongst the boys!  A great run from Faith saw her finish as runner up and it was Arabella who crossed the line to win the bronze medal. In the set competition results were as follows:

  • 1st - White
  • 2nd - Red
  • 3rd - Blue

While these performances should be commended, it is also important to congratulate all runners who did not place. It was great to see the grit and determination on many faces and the resilience shown by some was superb.

Thank you to all staff and spectators for supporting this event.
