This was our final cross country event of the season and saw forty St Hugh’s runners taking part. Though it was dry underfoot on arrival it did not remain this way, but the runners coped extremely well with the conditions. Full team and individual results can be viewed in the PDF download.

The U9 Girls’ were first to take to the start line, with both an A and B team out this week. Charlotte J led the team in her usual style and worked hard against some strong runners. She held her position in the lead pack well and it was a very tight finish, which saw our first St Hugh’s runner achieve an impressive 3rd place. Charlotte was followed by Penelope who had a great run this week, particularly as a Year 3, finishing 5th overall. Our third and fourth counter was Arabella (17th) and Olivia (19th) which put St Hugh’s in a pleasing 3rd place overall. Frankie (22nd) and Coco (23rd) were not far behind, followed by Lulu, Tabitha, Layla and Rosie.

Next up were the boys, who also had two teams racing. Unfortunately, James F was unable to run this week but despite this, the boys performed extremely well and finished as runners up! Keegan and Kaz once again went out strong and played a big part in this success, placing 3rd and 4th. The other two counters were Rory S and George C who came in at 16th and 17th. Edward J (19th), Seb (21st), Rory(24th) and Edward B (27th) were our next four finishers to count as our B team. Joshua and Ben worked hard over the course and followed shortly after. The boys did themselves proud and finished in an impressive 2nd Place!

Our U11 girls came out with one intention and that was to win. Following their victory at Worksop College last week, they were determined to finish on a high. The course saw U11 completing two laps, running a distance of 2.2km. Though it was generally very flat, there was one steep short incline followed by a very steep downhill section, which proved quite fun - at least for the spectators!  Florence led the team and steadily worked her way forward to lead the pack. She had a good run and crossed the line comfortably in first place. Our next two runners had more competition, with Charlotte sitting on the shoulder of 3rd place and Ailsa hanging on close behind. Both girls ran very well and complemented Florence’s strong performance with a 4th and 5th place. Our fourth counter this season has varied with Kitty, Millie and Angelina battling hard against one another as well as the rest of the field. This week, it was Kitty who finished as fourth St Hugh’s girl, in a pleasing 10th place, closely followed by Angelina (13th). It was clear from these results, that the team had secured the win finishing in 1st place.

The final race was the U11 boys who had to endure the worst of the elements and a rather muddy course! It was great to have two teams out this week and as a group the boys dug in and performed well finishing in 3rd place (A team) and 4th place (B team). Aydin set the pace initially with his usual fast start though struggled a little to maintain it. It was William L who really shone this week finishing as our first boy in an impressive 4th place. Wilf also came back fighting from his fall at Worksop, demonstrating grit and determination throughout. Wilf was our second boy home in 10th place, followed by Aydin (13th) and Austin (15th). Matthew and Max also finished in the top 20. Ted and Jenson were the other counters for the B team. A pleasing team effort by the boys.
