Boarding House News - Week 5

Our weekly Boarding House Newsletter for the week commencing Monday 3rd October...

The second to last week of the first half of term has come to a close and I cannot believe I am starting to decorate the Boarding House for Halloween! Where is the time going?!

On Monday evening our boarders played 40:40 outside – a game that I once called Blocky 1, 2, 3! They loved it that much they played again on Tuesday night following their toasted marshmallows around the fire pit AND on Wednesday night before settling down to watch the England Netball match or movie. It’s great to get outside, utilising our facilities as much as possible, whilst the evenings are still light.

On Thursday evening the boarders ventured out to the Tea House in the Woods where they enjoyed a huge hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows and brownie with ice cream.

Thank you to the staff at the Tea House in the Woods, it was a great evening and we are already excited to plan our next trip. It is a real treat to have this on our doorstep!

For supper this week, boarders have enjoyed the very famous bagels with spread and fruit, apple donuts which were a huge hit, rainbow kebab sticks and vegetables with hummus.

Boarders have offered their time in helping prepare supper this week, something I never expected or asked for! It really does confirm our home-from-home environment where each boarder feels comfortable in their surroundings embedding our shared values.

Next week we are really excited to welcome our Year 3 boarders for their taster evening. Our House Captains, Peyia and Jenson, have spent time preparing for their first official duty supporting Mrs Corner and I, ensuring that they have a real taste of what it is like boarding at St Hugh’s.

Activities for the week commencing 3rd October:

  • Monday – Decorate Halloween Cookies
  • Tuesday – Kinema in the Woods: Tad, The Lost Explorer
  • Wednesday – Halloween Games
  • Thursday – Pumpkin Carving

Best wishes
