Cross Country Success

It was a superb afternoon for the St Hugh’s runners on Friday 1st October, who competed in the Brooke Priory Invitational Cross Country race. Thirty-eight Y3-6 pupils represented the school around the tough course at Rutland Water. This included eight age group teams, each requiring four runners to count. We opted to take up to six runners in some age groups having been impressed with so many of them, and this gave more pupils the opportunity to experience competitive running at its best!

There were some outstanding performances from the St Hugh’s side and overall we definitely punched above our weight given the size of some of the opposition schools. Two of our teams finished as winners, with other teams not far behind – two as runners up in second place, two in 3rd, one in 4th and one in 6th. This was a real team effort and the pupils knew they were not only running as an individual but also as part of their age group team, as well as for St Hugh’s.

With a good number of parents spectating, the atmosphere was fantastic. It really does make a difference to the runners to have this support behind them so a special thank you to the staff and parents who supported the children so well around the course.

There were some very impressive individual performances across the age groups with a number of our pupils receiving medals as a top 6 finisher.

A huge well done to everyone with special congratulations to the following runners who were presented with a medal.
