ESSA Relay Qualifier

A squad of five St Hugh's swimmers returned to Louth on Friday evening to compete in the ESSA Relays East Midlands Qualifier.

The team consisted of Harry M (captain), Helena F, Aurora F, William B and Annabel S. It was a straight final for both the 4x1Medley relay and 4x1 Freestlye relay with seven other schools competing in the small schools category.

The team had prepared well in swim squad and some extra pool sessions and despite some initial nerves they approached the first event with confidence. Harry, Aurora, Will and Helena swam the freestyle relay in an impressive time of 1.07.93, winning the race and qualifying for the National Finals in June. This was also the 4th fastest qualifying time across all categories (small, medium and open schools). Knowing we had already qualified for Sheffield the team were put at ease and approached the medley race very positively. Annabel S swapped with William to swim alongside Harry, Aurora and Helena in the 4x1 Medley. This race saw us not only qualify with the fastest small schools time but achieve the 3rd fastest time of the evening!

An outstanding performance by the St Hugh's team! Well done to all swimmers and thank you to our parents, Miss Ward and Miss Wood for their support.
