Grantham Prep U9 & U11 Invitational Swimming Gala (A) 1.15pm

Please see downloads for TEAM SHEET. This gala is mixed gender teams so please be aware that I am unable to take everyone in Swim Squad to this event. If you intend to spectate, pupils may go home directly but please let me know in advance. Swimmers may like to bring a spare towel and some poolside shoes. Many thanks.

Result: Winners!

On Monday 20th March an U9, U10 and an U11 mixed swimming team travelled to Grantham for Grantham Prep’s Annual Swimming Gala. The last time this event took place was in 2019, before the pandemic.

There were three other teams taking part in this gala: Grantham Prep, Peterborough School and Wellow House. When we arrived, we got changed and then headed pool side for our warm up, including some practice dives. The races were mixed (boys and girls) with U9s swimming first, then the U10s, then U11s.

The first event of the day was 25m Backstroke.

  • Penelope (U9) - 2nd - 24.97
  • Tabitha (U10) - 1st - 24.10
  • Charlie (U11) - 1st - 20.78

The next event was 25m Breaststroke.

  • Joshua F (U9) - 4th - 34.94
  • Charlotte J (U10) - 1st - 23.68
  • Annabelle J (U11) - 1st - 20.59

Next was 25m Fly.

  • Charlotte J (U10) - 1st - 20.28
  • Annabelle J (U11) - 1st - 16.87
  • And the last individual event was 25m Freestyle.
  • Penelope (U9) - 3rd - 22.25
  • George C (U10) - 2nd - 18.50
  • Charlie (U11) - 1st - 17.75

The last two events were relays which consisted of 4 competitors each swimming 25m.

The first relay was 4x25m Freestyle Relay.

  • Penelope, Joshua, Harriet and George (U9) - 2nd
  • Charlotte J, George, Sam and Tabitha (U10) - 1st
  • Annabelle J, Will C, Alicia and Charlie (U11) - 1st

And the last event of the day was 4x25 Medley Relay.

  • George, Penelope, Harriet and Joshua (U9) - 2nd
  • Sam, Tabitha, Charlotte J and George (U10) - 2nd
  • Charlie, Alicia, Annabelle J and Will C (U11) - 1st

Overall, St Hugh’s came 1st with 58 points; 12 points ahead of second place Grantham Prep. Very well done to all the swimmers who took part in this event and thank you to Mrs Warwick-Smith and Mrs Felton who we wouldn’t have been able to take part without.
