IAPS Swimming Regional Qualifier

The St Hugh’s U11 Swim Team put on a great show at Repton on Monday for the IAPS Regional Qualifier! We entered a girls and boys team this year to compete in the 4x1 Medley and 4x1 Freestyle relay.

We did not however have the breadth to enter the small schools competition (which strangely stipulates that you must have eight swimmers of the same gender, four from Y5 and four from Y6 - very prescriptive!). This means that we were essentially competing against not only far more schools, but some of the largest schools across the country. Despite knowing this, the pupils were up for the challenge and they now wait in anticipation to see which of our team achieves the higher ranking - boys or girls! The results are due to be published on Tuesday 18th April.

Both teams performed exceptionally well on the day and their hard work in training certainly paid off. It can be quite a daunting experience particularly for those who do not club swim. For the boys, this included Charles B (with his incredible power of the blocks), William C (who took it all in his stride) and George C (a year young). For the girls, it was our National finalists from last season (Annabelle, Kitty, Megan and Alicia) as well as the second Jay, Charlotte (also a year young).

We also had four swimmers compete in individual events and it was fabulous to see them take to the blocks so confidently. There were personal bests achieved and all swimmers finished top 3 in their respective races. Though they were essentially swimming against the clock, St Hugh’s set the bar high and all four races were incredibly close.

  • Charlotte T (Lincoln Vulcans), Year 7 - U12 50m Breast
  • Annabelle J (Grantham), Year 6 - U11 50m Freestyle
  • Charlie T (Louth Dolphins), Year 6 - U11 50m Freestyle
  • Charlotte J (Grantham), Year 5 - U10 50m Freestyle

The fastest 20 swimmers and teams across the country qualify for the National Finals at the London Aquatics on Saturday 3rd June. Good luck!
