Lacrosse National Finals

The St. Hugh's U11 Pop Lacrosse team attended the national finals at English Institute for Sports in Sheffield on Sunday 23rd June 2019.  The team consisted of Aurora F, Beth C, Penny V, Annabel S, Matthew K, Freddie N, Morgan D and Harry M.

Our first game was against Honeywell and we were nowhere near aggressive enough as well as having poor man-to-man marking and not enough constant running on the pitch.  They scored 13 unanswered goals and not surprisingly made it through to the cup competition in the afternoon.

Our second game was against Mellor who again were a very impressive team who ended up in the cup competition, however we fought our way back into the game and scored two goals by Aurora and Penny.  However, it was a 9-2 loss.

Out third game of the morning was against St John's on the Hill.  The first half finished 3 all with goals from Penny, Freddie and Aurora. In the second half St John's got one further goal to give them a 4-3  victory.  Our final game of the morning pool round was against Withington and again we scored three times with two from Harry and one from Penny.  However, they scored 5.

After a poor, but improving set of games in the morning it meant that we were in the bowl competition in the afternoon to be ranked 17th to 20th best in the country.  In our bowl semi-final we played Malvern St James.  We knew that one win would get us to the final so we went out hard and were 3-0 up by half time with goals from Matthew, Penny and Freddie.  In the second half they came back with three goals however we won thanks to a second goal of the game by Penny.

Our final game of the day was for the bowl and we played Lister School. We won 6-2 with Penny and Matthew both getting a brace and Beth and Aurora scoring one each.
