Match Report

Result: Finished 6th overall.

It is a long way to Bakewell, but when it is warm and the sun is shining it is worth the trip. We played in a tournament where the matches were only eight minutes long, so it was important to attack and try to score goals.

Our first match was against St Anselm’s B team. We passed the ball really well and attacked throughout and won 2-0 with 2 goals from Max. Aydin was the only scorer in the second game against   Dunstone Prep where we won 1-0. We then played The Elms School and defended really well to earn a 0-0 draw. Our last group match was against Ranby. If we won we would win the group and play in the final. Unfortunately, we conceded our only goal of the day and lost 1-0, ending up 3rd in our group on goal difference. We then played Old Vicarage School in the 5th/6th play off. This finished 0-0 so we went to penalty shuffles! These were a new experience for the boys, fun but also nerve wracking! We lost the penalty shuffles 2-1 but had a lot of fun.

The Under 11A team arrived just in time for a very busy afternoon of netball. The girls played nine back to back matches.

It was a pleasure to work with such a talented group of girls and with no sub, no rest, and lots of sun they really did impress!

Movement on and off the ball was excellent throughout the tournament. The defence was solid and didn’t let much through. The shooting at times was erratic but once Mahreen got her confidence back this improved.

Each and every girl gave 100% all afternoon and they didn’t lose a game. At the end of play, they were joint winners with Pownall Hall, who they had drawn with earlier. Sadly, Pownall Hall had a significantly higher goal difference so they came away with the trophy.

A very enjoyable afternoon. I was most impressed when St Hugh’s nominated a younger girl as 'player of the match'. The girl got injured and gave her best which the girls recognised.

A superb end to the season!
