SET Cross Country 2018

It was another very competitive Set competition on Wednesday with every pupil from Year 3-8 running for their Set at the annual cross country event. We were blessed with great running conditions and it was nice to see the rain stay away!  Every finisher contributed points to their Set and it was great to see the determination on those faces.

Pupils have been preparing for this event over the term in their PE lessons, as part of a health and fitness block. A number of them have also attended running hobby throughout the term. Girls and boys ran together although it was a separate competition with medals being awarded to the top 3 boys and girls.

The afternoon kicked off with the U9 race which saw 37 competitors complete the 1km course around the school grounds. It was a competitive race and it was super to see Year 3 holding their own with the Year 4 pupils.

The U11 race followed with 31 Year 5 and 6 children tackling a tough 3km route. This included a couple of (Lincolnshire sized) hills and a mixture of terrain which makes for a more interesting course. We are very grateful as always to Mr and Mrs Nelstrop for allowing us use of their land.  Again competition was close with some runners finishing seconds apart. However both Aurora and William had a clear lead crossing the line in first place.

The final race of the afternoon saw the Year 7 and 8 pupils running 5km which was the same route as U11 with an additional loop. For many of our Year 7 pupils this was their first experience of this distance but they rose to the occasion and competed well. In fact, it was two of our Year 7 boys who finished in 1st and 2nd place, and in an impressive time too!
