St Hugh's hosted our first gala of the year on Monday which saw pupils from Year 3-6 compete in a range of individual events and team relays.  We welcomed swimmers from Wellow, St Martin's Prep and St George's Prep to this event and there were over 80 competitors! 

For some of our youngest pupils this was their first experience of a competitive swimming event and they coped very well indeed.  There was a great team spirit and it was lovely to see our pupils supporting one and other.  There were a lot of closely contested races with St Hugh's winning a good number of these (10/26).  There was also a lot of second place finishes (9/26).  This ensured we earned a good amount of points before going into the team relays to end the event.  The relay events are worth double points so they are always extremely exciting and the results can change quite dramatically depending on performance. Relays relay on all team members and it was super to see St Hugh's looking strong. In the medley relay we achieved two wins from four and in the freestyle we also achieved to wins with the other teams finishing in 2nd place. 

The scores were very close throughout the gala but following our success in the relays, St Hugh's were delighted to finish in 1st place (129 points), followed closely by St George's (115) and St Martin's (114).  

Well done to all competitors!  A great start to the swimming season.
