Match Report

Result: Won 2-0

After a long trip, a combined A, B & C St Hugh's team took on Orchard House. On a huge pitch, goalscoring opportunities were thin on the ground. However, we showed great willingness to work up and down the pitch for each other. Fergus, William S and Charles in midfield worked incredibly hard to help Toby O in attack, as well as trying to get back to support Euan B and William C in defence. We definitely had the upper hand in the first half and continued pressure saw us win a string of corners though we could not capitalise on them. Then, late in the first half, a cross from a free-kick saw Fergus sweep in a goal from close range. Luckily, this occurred just before the coach could advise Fergus not to stand so close to goal! The second half saw more pressure from Orchard House and goalie Toby W was called into action, showing a safe pair of hands. Raul and Joshua both came on and held the fort at the back. Midway through the half Toby O fired in a fine, long range free kick to settle our nerves. The only significant incident which followed was a lovely conversion by Charles from the penalty spot - unfortunately it was a rugby-style conversion which sailed beautifully over the crossbar. A very hardworking, battling performance boys - a well-earned victory!
