Match Reports

U11A Team vs Laxton

Result: W 284-236

Having arrived a little late due to unforeseen traffic hold-ups, we began our first 2-over per pair match against Laxton with St Hugh’s taking to the field first. Charles opened the bowling well, collecting a wicket in the first over. We managed to limit them to only three boundaries in the whole innings on a very small pitch. Further wickets were picked up throughout, from the bowling of Fergus, Wilf and Charlie - with catches held firmly. We took advantage of the short boundaries in our innings, despite losing a wicket in the first over before we had registered a run! Charles and Toby were the main boundary-getters (6s and 4s) with Charlie, Wilf and Max assisting well. Fergus and AJ showed good communication between the wickets and scored some well-judged quick singles.

U11 A Team vs Brooke Priory

Result: L 255-233

Having won against Laxton we played the winners of the other match. However, due to time constraints, the match was shortened to just four deliveries per batting pair. Brooke batted first and scored heavily on a pitch with an even shorter boundary. We could not manage to get a wicket and though AJ bowled very accurately, on the whole it was too easy for Brooke to score - only two singles were run in the whole innings, the rest were either fours or sixes!

We took a while to get into our stride, and the first boundaries were only hit by the second pairing of Charles and Jenson, who both scored sixes. Toby and Eli added more boundaries, though the latter was unfortunate to pick out their best fielder to lose his wicket. With such a short innings we never quite recovered from our slow start, and we could not overhaul their total.

U11 B vs Laxton

Result: W 254-218

First match against Laxton playing 1 over per pair and Laxton batting first - with great fielding and bowling done collectively by St Hugh’s keeping Laxton scoring low and two wickets taken from accurate bowling from Megan and Poppy.

St Hugh’s next to bat saw some fantastic scoring - Poppy hitting a six and fours along with Ailsa, Peyton, Megan and Grace finding the boundary. Great team effort all round.

Players' player was awarded to Poppy! Well done.

U11 B vs Stamford

Result: L 223-231

On to the next match against Stamford and a very close contest. St Hugh’s to bat first and, with some strong bowling from Stamford, St Hugh’s had great communication and took the opportunities to score a run. Grace and Poppy hitting well again finding the boundary but unfortunately some lifted balls gave Stamford the opportunity to catch two players out losing 10 points.

St Hugh’s in to field again - some great bowling from the team kept Stamford’s score down. Very close game with Stamford just managing to keep ahead. Players' Player was awarded to Jemima! Well done everyone.
