Report

U11A

After a 1-1 draw earlier in the season we knew this would be a tough game.  Played at Horncastle astro on a very windy day the quality of the hockey from both teams was very impressive.  There was some excellent passing, mainly down the left wing early on , with Morgan, Freddie N and Will B interchanging well.    When the ball did come out to the right, Matthew looked dangerous. Mid-way through the first half Harry M took the ball from defence into the D and passed to Matthew who scored. It remained 1-0 at half time.   Burton scored early on in the second half. There were a number of good chances to score for both teams during the second half and with a bit more composure it could have been a high scoring match. However,  it remained 1-1, to maintain the unbeaten season so far!

U11B

Playing at Horncastle Hockey Club we played a repeat fixture against a good Burton team. Having lost the first match in February by three goals to nil, we were pleased to register our first goal of the season to take the lead. It followed a sequence of neat and intricate passes on the right flank, and when the ball found its way to Jack he made no mistake as he swept it in from six yards out. I was highly impressed by the standard of passing and moving of the whole team, particularly the midfield quartet of Freddie H, Freddie R, Ethan and Timothy. Jack proved a worthy and willing target man up front. We were solid, too, at the back; Sam and Joseph are forming a secure partnership in front of Henry E (Gk) who marshalled his area with confidence.  The second half proved trickier and the flow of our game was not helped by rotating subs on and off intermittently. Thomas B who played the second half in goal pulled off one or two fantastic saves. Burton sneaked into the lead after some sustained pressure and though we pressed hard and had several shots to try to equalise, the ball just would not go in. Excellent improvement though boys!
