This week our U10 girls played against an U11 Wellow side. It was a good opportunity to have all the year 5's playing together and the girls enjoyed the afternoon. Beth had her first opportunity to captain the side and did of course carry her duties out with great enthusiasm!

Wellow had no substitutes so we decided to play quarters which worked well for us as we had a large squad. This ensured all our girls had a good amount of pitch time.  Penny had her first experience of playing in goal following a training session on Monday. She made some super saves and cleared the ball with power.

The first quarter was quite evenly matched and although St Hugh's did have a few chances Wellow took the lead initially.  We took a while to adapt to the change of surface but the girls worked hard and there was some great runs up the right wing by Beth. The next quarter saw St Hugh's capitalise with goals from Ruby and we went into half time 2-1 up.

The third quarter was perhaps our strongest with Helena pushing up as our striker. She scored a cracking goal which came from our defence initially when Tallia regained possession in our defending half. We moved the ball well and Wellow were put under a lot of pressure. The final quarter was just as exciting with a number of close encounters from both teams. Penny made some more great saves as did the Wellow keeper.  Final score 3-1 win. Well done to all players. We look forward to our final matches next week as the hockey season comes to a close.
