The U11C cricket team travelled to Wellow. Captain Jemima won the toss (actually it was a daisy pick) and chose to field first.
Our opening pair of bowlers of William and Raul started with an expensive over and then tightened up and took a wicket caught. Final score was 33 for 1 from the four overs.
Next Millie and Jemima bowled with Millie taking two wickets in two balls in her first over. The final score was 20 runs for 2 wickets.
The third pair of Ted and Arthur were very frugal and only conceded 4 runs and Ted got two run outs.
Poppy and Mahreen started with the former bowling a maiden and the latter getting a wicket with her second ball. Overall Wellow only scored 9 for 1 from their 4 overs.
The final pair of Grace and Poppy started very expensively with 19 from the first over. However, with 4 wickets in the last 9 balls they turned this around to concede 12 for 4.
Wellow finished on 178 for 10.
When we batted William and Raul plundered 26 for 2 from their 4 overs.
Millie and Jemima scored a super 35 for 1.
Arthur and Ted were super between the wickets with their energetic running and scored 21 for the loss of 2 wickets.
Mahreen and Poppy scored 14 for 3 with Poppy hitting a super 4 from their last ball.
Grace and Poppy finished the innings with an impressive 26 without the loss of a wicket.
St Hugh’s final score was 222 for 8 from their 20 overs.
Poppy received player of the game as nominated by the opposition.
Result: Lost 247-6 v 292-1
The U11D cricket team travelled to Wellow for their match this week.
Electing to field first, the team took to the field with Matthew first to bowl. Taking a wicket in the first over, things were looking promising for St Hugh’s! However, it took the team a bit of time to warm up with their bowling, and quite a few runs were given away to the first couple of Wellow pairs with wides/no balls.
The whole team had a chance to bowl a second time however, with much improved accuracy. The fielders had also got used to the slight slope of the pitch, so were more successful in diving for the ball before it reached the boundary!
When it was St Hugh’s’ turn to bat, the pairs worked well together and it was great to see a few runs stolen with quick-thinking and good communication. Particularly well done to Michelle and Ela, who completed their four overs with no wickets lost and to Ela for scoring the team’s only 4.
