U11A

The U11A team approached their second game of the season full of enthusiasm following a great start last week.  Jasmine captained the team this week and led by example from changing at first break right through to arriving back at school.  Our first half was tough and the girls lost their composure somewhat having been put under a fair bit of pressure by the Wisbech side.  The opposition moved the ball quickly and St Hugh's struggled to keep up with the pace of the game.  There were moments of lovely play but we were timid and Wisbech dominated as a result.  At half time we were 3-0 down so we discussed some targets for the second half of the game. The first was to be more vocal on the pitch, the second was to pick up free players (particularly in our defensive half) and the third to score! As soon as the whistle went for the start of the second half St Hugh's instantly looked like a different team.  Their was some great linkage and we let the ball do more of the work. Our communication was much better and our passes were harder and stronger.  We created several attacking opportunities in this half and put Wisbech under pressure with a number of shots on goal.  The goal eventually came, from Penny, and the girls ran back on side ready to go again! It took a while for Wisbech to find the backboard in the second half thanks to Aurora, who made some cracking saves.  We were much tighter on our players this half and really worked hard to deny Wisbech time and space.  The second half was a 1-1 draw, with the final score finishing as a 4-1 defeat. We learned a great deal from this game and look forward to turning some of our weaknesses into strengths!  Stamford Festival next week! Well done to all players, everyone contributed a great deal to the team this week.

U11B

The U11B were very excited and enthusiastic about their first match of the season.  Annabel T led the team very well, getting them organised, leading the warm up. The first half was difficult with Wisbech being very dominate with their possession and tackling but the girls defended with determination and some fantastic hit outs from Tailia allowed the girls to get into Wisbech’s half. At half time we were 4-0 down and after discussing a few points and praising the long hits and excellent use of space with Hattie W, the girls returned to pitch and put the points into practice and with 5 minutes to go the girls were 0-0. The girls had a couple of chances at goal but couldn’t quite get passed Wisbech’s defence. Emily and Tailia made some great saves on the backline and forced the Wisbech to have a few long corners, which led to 3 goals. Overall it was a great start to the season with some good points and points to work on. The girls enjoyed their first match and are looking forward to their next match next week. Well done girls!!!!
