Match Report

Result: Win 5-3

St Hugh's U13 girls played their first fixture of the season away to the old foe Witham Hall. The team consisted of Ruby S in goal, Hatty W and Freya B in defence, Penny V and Beth C playing centre midfield and rotating wingers of Poppy W and Imogen L on the left and Annabel T and Peyia F on the right.

St Hugh's were the first to get on the score sheet after seven minutes as Penny struck home and then Beth made it two a minute later.  Another minute on, a St. Hugh's penalty corner was struck towards goal to be finished off by Beth. With 20 seconds left to the half, Witham pulled one back. Half time was 3-1 to St Hugh's.

Annabel and Peyia were creating opportunities with a good work ethic on the right and Poppy and Imogen were building into their first U13 competitive match. As expected, Freya and Hatty were solid in defence and Ruby was a great presence in goal.

The team talk gave each individual an objective to work on as well as a collective mentality of defending together.

After three minutes Beth scored again from a penalty corner. Witham got a second after nine minutes.  As legs were starting to tire gaps were opening up and Beth exploited this on 14 minutes with her fourth. With two minutes left on the clock Witham got their 3rd as the ball was slotted into the corner.

Final score 5-3 to St Hugh's. The Girl of the Game, as awarded by the opposition team, was Ruby in goal which helps demonstrate that it was not all one way traffic.
