On Wednesday the 12th of September the U13 girls played their first match of the season at home against a physically large team from Worksop College.

For the first 10 minutes of the first half it was honours even as both teams pressed and got used to their own positions as well as the opposition.  It was Worksop who scored first from a short corner as St. Hugh's failed to clear the ball effectively and it was scrambled over the line.

However, we hit back almost immediately as Pippa S dribbled forward from within her own half before striking a shot from the edge of the D into the far corner.  The half time score was 1-1.

In the second half Worksop made many changes and the fresh legs gave them an early break down the right with the cross being deflected from a defender's stick pass Ava W in goal.  The score remained at 2-1 until the 18th of the 20 minutes when they scored a third as St. Hugh's were pushing forward for an equaliser only to leave too much space in defence. 

All in all, the coach and parents were pleased with the girl's efforts as they very much played as a team with the Year 8 girls involving the Year 7 girls into the play.  The next fixture is away to Wisbech on Wednesday the 19th.
