Match Report

Result: W: St Hugh’s 330/4, Ranby 227/11

Without Year 5, who are enjoying a week in France, all of Year 6 participated in the first cricket match of the season. Bowling first, we maintained precision throughout and kept their score down with a combination of accurate bowling and sharp fielding; amongst the wickets were some stumpings by Josh and James, a confidently taken catch by Noah and a maiden over courtesy of Sam.

After a brief pause between innings we resumed play amidst late April hailstones! Our batting was of an equal standard to our bowling. We gave very few wickets away and piled on the runs. James managed four fours in consecutive deliveries with some well timed on-drives and Rory S and Josh N looked classy with their shot selection. I was pleased to see good communication between batters and some slick running, though Lulu and Tabitha gave us all the jitters with some very risky singles. However, they may justly claim it was good judgement as neither one of them was ever run out.

A promising start to the season for all players - thank you to both sets of players and the hardy spectators for braving the unseasonal weather.
