Radio 2’s 500 Words

At this morning’s assembly six pupils were told that their entries have made it through the first round of Radio 2’s 500 Words competition.

The competition was started eight years ago with the aim to make children excited about reading and writing. All participants have to write an original story on any subject or theme in 500 Words or fewer and submit it online. If they win, their story will be read live on the radio by a superstar celebrity.

This year around 140,000 children entered the competition and Caitlin (Y8), Beth (Y5), Freya (Y5), Amelia (Y3), Euan and Millie (both Y2) are now in the top 5,000 stories. They were presented with their certificates in this morning’s assembly. Their stories will now be read again by the judges before the finalists are announced.
