St Hugh’s on BTSport

On Saturday 20 pupils and staff travelled down to the Olympic Park to watch GB Women’s hockey team play against the USA in the FIH Pro League. St Hugh’s had also been selected to be flag bearers on the pitch during the teams’ national anthems so there was double excitement in the minibuses.

All the pupils looked smart in their St Hugh’s hoodies and were responsible for holding the FIH Pro League flag in front of the 4,000 crowd and a television audience on BTSport.

The game was end to end with GB enjoying much of the possession however the match ended in a 1-1 draw so went to a thrilling penalty shootout. This took place just in front of the St Hugh’s pupils and was fairly dramatic with the USA taking the initial lead however the GB goalkeeper made some great saves and GB went on to win. After the match the pupils were able to meet some of the players and get their autographs. What a great day!
