Up, Up and Away!

Year 1 had a fantastic (but rather chilly and snowy) visit to Newark Air Museum. The children (and adults!) were so excited to see such a huge variety of aeroplanes and enjoyed sharing their own learning about the history of flight.

The children examined the size of the planes, the shape of their wings and how the materials they were made from have changed so much over the last 120 years. They were inspired to ask many thoughtful questions. A highlight of the trip was seeing a replica of an early plane that was built a few years after the Wright Brothers Flyer. Being able to make first hand comparisons between early and modern planes really took their learning to the next level.

A highlight of the day was making their own paper aeroplanes – there was even a special machine they could use to launch them!
