We Join the Nation in Mourning

A message from our Headmaster, Jeremy Wyld:

Dear Parents and Friends of St Hugh's

All of us connected with St Hugh's are, I am sure, deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty the Queen. Our thoughts are with all members of the Royal Family at this time of sorrow.

Her Majesty embodied many virtues, and will always be remembered for her selfless service, her warmth, and her gentle strength in leading the nation over seven decades. Her life was an example to us all and she was a constant source of unity and reassurance and her sense of duty will have inspired many.

As a school, we shall gather in reflection later today and the Union Flag is flying at half-mast outside the pavilion. We expect further guidance from the Government on the arrangements for the National Day of Mourning and State funeral. We shall keep you informed regarding the plans for the period of mourning and the School will not be communicating anything other than essential messages during this period.

In a divided world we shall pause to remember Her Majesty not only as a remarkable woman who stood for unity in so many areas and through so many decades but who was also a dearly loved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Best wishes

Jeremy
